Girls Day in NYC

A holiday tradition I look forward to every year is having a girls day in the city with my Mom. We usually see a play or the Rockettes, but this year we decided to change it up.

I called ahead and made a lunch reservation at BG restaurant inside Bergdorf Goodman, and I also made manicure appointments at the Plaza Hotel.

I used the Spot Hero app to prepay for a parking garage close to Bergdorf’s and what a savings! By booking the day before I paid $21 on the app when it would’ve been $53 normally. I love finding little savings like that! I’ll leave a link below and if you sign up through this link you’ll get $7 off your first booking!

We drove in listening to Christmas carols on a bright sunny day and surprisingly didn’t encounter much traffic. It was the day before the Rockefeller tree lighting but traffic was still pretty light.

We parked and walked the half a block to Bergdorf’s and made our way up to the 7th floor for lunch. The store was transformed into a winter wonderland with twinkly lights, sparkly baubles, and some really luxe gifts at every turn. If there was ever a store to make a luxe Christmas Wishlist, Bergdorf’s would be the top! (Santa if you’re reading this I’ve been VERY nice this year, hehe)

We were seated with a view of 5th Avenue and our waiter was so sweet and extra attentive. They let us have everything split in the kitchen which was very accommodating and the hot tea was some of the best I’ve ever had. It’s called Dammann Frères and we enjoyed the Early Grey variety. We also split the croque monsieur, lobster Mac and cheese, and the pièce de résistance-the Gotham Salad. If you’ve never heard of or had this salad, stop what you’re doing and make a reservation immediately. It’s my very favorite salad and I can’t wait to try and recreate it at home. The savory-sweet-salty combo of Gruyere cheese, chicken, bacon and beets are such a good mix! Here is the link to the recipe, so tasty!

I also purchased a book, titled “The Rise of Fashion and Lessons Learned at Bergdorf Goodman”. It looks fascinating and has some neat pictures, I can’t wait to dive into it! (It’s also only $10 on Amazon right now and would make the perfect stocking stuffer for the fashion lover in your life!)

After lunch we had to stop and marvel at the famous Bergdorf Goodman windows. They were stunning and playful and colorful. This is from the Bergdorf Goodman blog about their theme this year: “Entitled “Bergdorf Goodies,” our latest windows continue their tradition of fantastical storytelling with a celebration of all things sweet. Each of the 5th Avenue windows captures an array of holiday treats from giant candy canes and gingerbread houses to cotton candy statues and neon confections.
Visit the 2018 holiday windows now through January 3rd at 5th Avenue and 58th Street in New York City.”

At the Plaza we stopped in the lobby and took some pictures of the stunning tree. Grandiose and sparkly and everything you’d expect from the home of Eloise. We then had manicures at the salon, Warren Tricomi. It was lovely!

On our way back downstairs to the lobby we happened upon the Guerlain Rouge G lipstick pop-up shop. The concept is really neat. First you pick your color lipstick and then you pick your case. The cases are really luxe, heavy in the hand with a pop-up mirror. They come in an array of colors and finishes. I chose a metallic gold lipstick perfect for the holidays with a rose gold case. The cases are reusable if you buy different shades of lipstick. Such a fun memento from the day, and such a posh lipstick to keep in your purse!

After such a rigorous afternoon we were absolutely parched! (Kidding, kidding). We headed downstairs to the Champagne Bar. There is nothing to quench your thirst like a fresh popped glass of Vueve Clicquot. We sipped our bubbles and enjoyed some light snacks and then it was time to head back to Jersey.

We drove down 5th Ave and enjoyed all the over-the-top luxurious holiday displays. We loved Tiffany’s and Cartier’s Townhouse the very most. We headed to Soho and picked up David at his office on our way home and out the Holland Tunnel we went!

New York City is such a magical place and at Christmastime, it’s on overload! The city that never sleeps never disappoints! It was a day I’ll cherish forever and I’m already looking forward to our next girls day!
