Hi there and thanks so much for stopping by! Today I’m sharing a recap of a lovely cooking class my mom and I attended at 90 Acres Cooking School, located at Natirar in Peapack, NJ.
Natirar (an anagram for Raritan, the River that runs through the property), is a 33,000sf mansion set on 1,000 acres of rolling hills in Somerset County. It was built back in 1905 by the Ladd family and was used for more than 50 years as their primary residence as well as a convalescent home for women.
It was sold in 1983 to the King of Morocco, Hassan II, so he could be close to his son who was attending Princeton at the time. After his death in 2003, it was sold to the county, which is now a park.
The top 90 acres of land is now leased and used as a restaurant, cooking school, farm, private club and residences, as well as an upcoming Pendry Hotel!
We chose the grilling class, and even though it was demonstration style, I learned so much. We had chef Kathleen Sanderson and she was more than knowledgeable. She had a great confidence and ease to her style of cooking, I could watch her all day.
We had sautéed garlic shrimp for an appetizer, grilled pork chops with cheddar grits and asparagus topped with a tomato and apricot chutney for our main course, and pound cake with berries and homemade whipped cream for dessert. There is a wait staff on hand to order drinks from the bar, so of course Mom and I had to indulge in a bottle of Prosecco!
It was a wonderful evening, and I can’t wait to take another class there again soon. Here’s the website if you’d like to learn more!
Thanks for reading, have a fabulous day. :)
