🎭 Broadway Review~ The Phantom of the Opera

Hi there and thanks for stopping by! I love musical theater and I love NYC so going to Broadway plays is one of my absolute favorite things to do in this world.

David and I scored tickets to The Phantom of the Opera for $35 each during Broadway Week and I was absolutely blown away by the performance.

Phantom is currently the longest running show on Broadway, opening in January of 1988. In the last 31 years Phantom has put on over 13,000 performances! And for good reason-did you know the synopsis is somewhat true?

Before Andrew Lloyd Webber’s fantastic musical adaptation, The Phantom of the Opera, or Le Fantôme de l’Opéra was first published as a series in a French newspaper in 1910 and was written by author Gaston Leroux. Leroux claims that the phantom is real, and even insisted so on his deathbed. While that has never been proven true, there are some factual bits woven into the story.

For example, there really are underground tunnels and even an underground lake underneath the Paris Opera house! To this day local firefighters use the lake for rescue mission training. Also, in 1896 a counterweight from the chandelier in the opera house fell, killing one person.

Aside from the eerie yet romantic story line, one of the best parts of this play is the score. These songs have become part of our pop culture, and 31 years later are still as fresh as ever.

In a time where there are so many technological advancements in stage and set design, I really appreciated the simplicity of Phantom. Lots of candles, some smoke, and one giant chandelier was just enough to keep focus on where it belongs, the raw talent of the cast and their angelic voices.

If you’re in the city and have the chance to see a show, I insist you go see Phantom. That’s “All I Ask of You”. ;-)

Walking Path~

With the cooler weather I’m so excited that our condo’s walking path is finally finished! It’s tucked away behind our building and is such a tranquil way to get in some cardio without having to leave the property! I love pushing my pups around it in their stroller. And that leads me to my next favorite...

My Girls~

Since Zero’s passing I have been clinging to my girls and cherishing every little moment with them more than ever. It has been so interesting to see their personal relationship with each other grow deeper, and I’ve been enjoying being able to spend more time with my Dolly and Coco.

Chanel Nail Vernis in #709 “Purple Ray”~$28

Leave it to Chanel to make a grown up looking purple polish! I love this lavender-grey color so much I’ve been wearing it non-stop for the last 3 weeks. Chanel always has the most unique colors and the very best formula-no chipping and super high shine. Also, their varnish is packed with Ceramides, strengthening your nails over time.

Fall bouquet~

My mom surprised me with the cutest autumnal mini bouquet from Wegmans the other day and it really got me in the mood for all things fall! (Now I’m craving a pumpkin spice latte, haha)

The Phantom of the Opera~

David and I headed to “The Great White Way” last week to see Phantom and to say I was blown away is an understatement! We scored discount tickets during NYC’s Broadway Week and the show was absolutely exceptional. On our way home to NJ we pulled over before the Lincoln Tunnel and indulged in another one of my NYC favorites, 99 cent pizza. Such a perfect date night! (Full review of the show to come!)
