We always keep a pack of bread dough in the freezer for quick rolls, buns, homemade pizzas and calzones.
I came across an old "semi homemade" recipe from Sandra Lee, and we've made them twice since. They're the perfect dessert or brunch recipe, and I love recipes that use pantry staples we always have on hand.
They're very similar to Cinnabon as far as flavor and consistency go, especially since they use lots of butter, brown sugar, and have a cream cheese frosting. (Definitely not waistline friendly, but everything in moderation, right?)
Here's the recipe:
Ingredients-
1 loaf frozen bread dough, thawed
Flour for dusting surface
Filling-
1 c brown sugar
1 Tbsp cinnamon
2/3 stick of butter, softened
Icing-
1 stick butter, softened
1 c powdered sugar
1/3 c cream cheese
1 tsp vanilla extract
Method-
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F
2. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface, to form a 15x7 inch rectangle. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread softened butter on dough, then evenly sprinkle cinnamon mixture. Roll up dough, starting on a long edge. Slice into 16 slices, set aside in a warm place until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
3. Place rolls in lightly buttered baking pan. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden. Meanwhile, using an electric mixer, combine all icing ingredients until fluffy. Frost and serve rolls warm. Enjoy!
Give them a try and let me know what you think! They would make the perfect accompaniment for your Easter brunch.
To those who celebrate, Happy Easter! I hope your Easter basket is filled to the brim with joy, peace, and happiness.
Thanks for reading, have a fabulous day. :)
